The Good Friday Agreement

April 10, 1998 · Belfast (Stormont) Theater

⚔ A power-sharing peace settlement ends the Troubles.

April 10, 1998

After years of secret talks and ceasefires, the parties reached the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement, establishing a power-sharing devolved government, cross-border bodies, the principle that Northern Ireland's status would change only by consent, prisoner releases, and the decommissioning of paramilitary weapons. It was overwhelmingly endorsed by referendums north and south.
